Villanova hosted Monmouth on Tuesday, April 2 at the West Campus Tennis Courts.
The 2013-14 season marked the seventh year at Villanova for Brad Adams, who is the head coach of the men's tennis squad and oversees all operations for the women's tennis program. Adams, himself a former Wildcats student-athlete, brings a goal-oriented and focused coaching style to the team. Adams has compiled a career record of 63-104-1 (.378) as the Wildcats head coach.
During the 2012-13 season, Adams led the Wildcats to their best season since the program's inception. Villanova finished 13-10, which included a seven-match winning streak. The Wildcats received a No. 6 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament, the highest in school history.
Adams helped lead junior Thomas O'Brien to a Second Team All-BIG EAST selection in 2013, after registering a "20-20" season for the Wildcats. He reached the 20-win plateau in both singles and doubles action for the season, finishing 20-13 overall in singles play with a 12-10 record in dual matches.
In 2012, Adams led a young Villanova team to a 10-12 record, marking the second year in a row that the Wildcats had improved their win total from the year before.
Last year Villanova won seven of its final 11 dual matches, including a 6-3 run to finish the regular season and a 1-1 mark in the BIG EAST Championship, where the Wildcats defeated Connecticut, 4-1, in the opening round. It marked the fourth time in Adams' five seasons as head coach that Villanova has posted a win in the conference tournament.
Adams took over the reins of the Wildcats program following the 2007 fall season and led Villanova to an 8-14-1 mark during the spring campaign in 2008. In his first full season as head coach Adams led the Wildcats to a 13-13 mark in 2008-09.
During his playing days for Villanova, Adams served as a co-captain during his senior season and compiled a career record of 25-37 at the No. 1 singles spot and a 23-23 record at No. 1 doubles. He was also named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team all four years of his undergraduate career.
Adams is a 2003 graduate of Villanova with a degree in Political Science with a minor in Geography. He also earned a Master's degree in Geography from Binghamton.
As a coach Adams has experience well beyond the Wildcats program. He was a tennis professional at the Longfellow Club in Wayland, Mass., where he served as the site director for the Hammel Tennis Camp and instructed the top players in New England. Adams also served in a similar capacity at the Westboro Tennis and Swim Club in 2003 and 2004. In addition to his teaching and coaching experience, Adams was appointed the program director for the tennis camps at Harvard University in 2002 and 2003, where he designed programs for advanced students and supervised several instructors.
