Curtin and Porter Honored by Philadelphia Soccer Seven

Dec. 7, 1999

Philadelphia, Pa. – In a vote by the league’s head coaches, Villanova University men’s soccer standouts Jim Curtin (Oreland, Pa.) and Conor Porter (Donegal, Ireland) were named to the 1999 Philadelphia Soccer Seven All-Star team. Temple's Kevin Kelly was chosen as the league’s Player of the Year, while John Dunlop of Philadelphia University and Lew Meehl of Drexel University were cited a co-winners of the Bill Harris Coach of the Year award.

This year marked the third consecutive year that Curtin was tabbed for all-league honors. Still only a junior, Curtin was selected as a midfielder, a position he played more of this year instead of his usual role as a defender. Curtin scored three goals on just 13 shots to total six points in 16 games for the Wildcats. A co-captain of the ’99 squad, Curtin led the ‘Cats to a 2-2 record in the Philadelphia Soccer Seven this season.

Porter, also a co-captain, tallied one goal and paced the Villanova with four assists. In 17 games as a midfielder this season, Porter scored six points. Porter, a senior, finished fourth on ‘Nova with 25 shots attempted.
