VILLANOVA, Pa. - Junior goalkeeper Andrew Weakly (Snohomish, Wash./Snohomish) has been named October's Villanova Student-Athlete of the Month, it was announced today.
Each month, the Office of Academic Support for Athletics selects a student-athlete that embodies the true definition of a "student-athlete." A student-athlete is chosen based on their dedication to achieving strong academic excellence and their superior athletic performance.
Weakly holds a Management and Real Estate double major with a Business Entrepreneurship minor with a 3.30 grade point average.
On the field Weakly has been the Wildcats' starting goalkeeper in 15 of 16 games played thus far in 2013 and was a standout during the month of October. He currently ranks eighth in the nation in total saves (78) and was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week on Oct. 21 after posting a 1-0 shutout victory over No. 12 Creighton. In addition, he was named Philadelphia Soccer Six Defender of the Week after that performance. He has posted six shutouts on the season and owns a 1.28 goals against average.
The Wildcats have two games remaining in the regular season and host Xavier at 3:00 p.m. Saturday on West Campus.
