VILLANOVA, Pa. - Villanova is the No. 4 seed in the Red Division and will host Seton Hall (6-11-0 overall, 2-6 BIG EAST) in the opening round of the 2012 BIG EAST Championship on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m., it was announced tonight by the conference office.
The winner of Wednesday's match advances to a Saturday night clash with Connecticut, the top seed in the Blue Division in a quarterfinal. The Huskies are currently ranked No. 3 in the nation.
The semifinals of the BIG EAST Championship will be held on Friday, Nov. 9 at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J. The championship match takes place on Sunday, Nov. 11, at noon.
Villanova (11-5-2 overall, 3-3-2 BIG EAST) secured its spot in the BIG EAST playoffs with a 4-0 victory Saturday over Pittsburgh at the Villanova Soccer Complex. The Wildcats finished the regular season with 11 points, tied with Cincinnati for fourth place. VU receives the higher seed due to its 1-0 win over the Bearcats on Oct. 13. Cincinnati travels to No. 4 seed Marquette on Wednesday night in the other opening round match.
The Wildcats did not meet either Seton Hall or Connecticut during the 2012 regular season.
