VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova Wildcats and Louisville Cardinals both have earned spots in the 2011 BIG EAST playoffs. But each team can improve its standing with a win when the two squads meet on Saturday.
The kickoff for this match is now slated for 11 a.m. Saturday at Eastern University due to the rainy conditions in the Delaware Valley. Directions to the alternate location can be found at www.goeasterneagles.com.
Villanova and Lousville each secured themselves a slot in the BIG EAST playoffs with wins in their last outing on Wednesday. The Wildcats got a goal at 109:16 from Matt Margiotta to defeat Syracuse 1-0 in central New York State. The Cardinals, meanwhile, posted a 1-0 win at DePaul.
The Wildcats currently sit in fourth place in the Red Division with 10 points while Louisville is in fifth position with eight points. The Wildcats trail third place St. John's (12 points) entering Saturday's action but could finish as high as third with a win tomorrow and a tie or loss by the Red Storm at Cincinnati.
A win or tie Saturday locks up a BIG EAST first round home game for Villanova. A Cardinals win would allow Louisville to claim fourth place and the first round home date. The BIG EAST playoffs get underway on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at campus sites. The top two teams in each division earn first round byes. The third and fourth place finishers host opening round games against the fifth and sixth place finishers in the other division.
Prior to Saturday morning's contest, four Wildcat seniors making their final home regular season appearance will be honored. That group includes Chris Christian, John Fogarty, Kevin Garcia and Margiotta.
