Men's Soccer Drops Overtime Contest To Soccer Seven Rival LaSalle
September 23, 1998 Traveling to LaSalle University on Wednesday, Sept. 23, trying to end a three-game losing skid, the Villanova men's soccer team scored first, but could not hold on losing to the Explorers 3-2 in overtime. With the loss, the Wildcats' overall record fell to 1-6-0 on the season. Villanova got on the board first at the 29:47 mark of the first half, as Dave Francalangia took a Tim DiGiulio pass and beat LaSalle goalie Don Tuohey to give the Wildcats the lead 1-0. The game would stay that way until the second half, when LaSalle's Lou Danielle tied the game up at the 58:12 mark off a Alex Roberti assist. With less than three minutes to go in the contest, junior Donavan Hornsby put Villanova in the lead again scoring off an assist from Francalangia. Just 30 seconds later, however, the Explorers came from behind like they had once before as Nick Zegestowsky scored his first goal of the game to send the contest into overtime. In the game's first extra session, LaSalle (1-5-0) completed the comeback as Pat O'Neill scored the game-winning goal to give the Explorers their first victory of the season.
The Wildcats will resume play on Saturday, Sept. 26, as they travel to St. Joseph's to face the Hawks at 6;30 p.m.
