Wildcats Host Penn in Philly Soccer Six Match
Sept. 24, 2013
VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova Wildcats (2-3-1 overall, 0-0 BIG EAST) return to their home pitch on Tuesday for their second consecutive Philly Soccer Six battle, this one against Penn. The Wildcats hope to rebound from a 1-0 loss to Temple in their first Soccer Six clash of the season on Saturday in Ambler, Pa.
"We expect a lot of spirit and another highly competitive game," stated Villanova head coach Tom Carlin.
The Wildcats young defense has continued its growth and VU has surrendered only one goal in its last 180 minutes of soccer. That has been offset, though, by an offense that has only a set piece goal from Hayden Harr in a 1-0 win over Stony Brook on Sept. 15 to show for its efforts over that same stretch of time.
Last season, the Wildcats scored a season high five goals in a 5-3 win over the Quakers at Rhodes Field. Villanova rallied from a 3-2 halftime deficit thanks in part to two goals from Emerson Lawrence.
Penn brings a 2-3-0 record with it to Villanova. The Quakers fell 3-0 to Villanova's BIG EAST rival Georgetown in its most recent action on Sept. 19. Stephen Baker and Alec Neumann lead the Quakers with five points each and both players have scored two goals early in the campaign.
Villanova has not played on its home field since a 3-1 victory over Marist on Sept. 7. The Wildcats go back on the road this weekend when they travel to Indianapolis to help welcome Butler to the BIG EAST as conference action opens on Saturday night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
The Wildcats will then visit La Salle on Oct. 2 before hosting Marquette in their BIG EAST home opener on Oct. 5. Please note that game will get underway at 3:30 p.m.
