Freshman Soccer Player Receives Honors

Villanova, Pa. - Villanova men's soccer freshman Matthew Sirolli (Glenside, Pa./ Abington High School) was named the Philadelphia Soccer Seven Player of the Week on Monday, Sept. 14, for his outstanding play last week in helping lead the Wildcats to their first victory of the season against Temple.
On Wednesday, Sept. 9, against the defending Philadelphia Soccer Seven Champion Temple Owls, Sirolli scored the first two goals of his Villanova career as the Wildcats went on for a 5-0 victory. At the 73:57 mark of the second half against the Owls, he took over the contest scoring two goals in a 12-minute span to close the book on Temple and give Villanova (1-3-0) its season's first win. For the year, Sirolli leads the Wildcats in both goals (2) and points (4). He has played in all four games in 1998, and earned his first start of the season against Syracuse on Saturday, Sept. 12.
A 5-9 forward from Glenside, Pa., Sirolli was a two-time All-Area and All-Suburban performer at Abington High School. He tallied 30 goals and 24 assists in three years of varsity soccer for Abington.
