Philadelphia Soccer Seven Honors Noonan

Sept. 5, 2000

Villanova, Pa. - Joe Noonan, a senior and native of Wilmington, Del., was named co-Philadelphia Soccer Seven player of the week, it was announced today. Noonan shared the award with Andrew McMenamin of Temple.

It was an explosive week for the product of Salesianum High School. In Villanova's season opener, Noonan's goal in the 83rd minute lifted the Wildcats to a 3-2 victory over St. Joseph's.

On Sept. 4 Noonan again delivered a game-winner against La Salle. The senior dribbled past two defenders and blasted a shot into the net to put the Wildcats in front in the 59th minute of the contest, 2-1. Noonan then set up Villanova's third goal, feeding teammate Tony Rod.

Noonan leads Villanova with five points in the early going. Last year he was the squad's top goal scorer, netting five on the 1999 campaign.

The Wildcats return to action on Sept. 6 when they open the Big East Conference schedule at Syracuse.
