Wildcats Visit Colgate Saturday
Aug. 31, 2012
VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova Wildcats will look to extend their season opening winning streak to three games when they travel north to meet Colgate (1-0-1 overall) on Saturday afternoon in Hamilton, N.Y.
The Wildcats, paced by senior Kyle Soroka, have netted nine goals in their first 180 minutes of soccer in 2012. Soroka scored the first goal in a 5-1 opening night win at Manhattan and added two more in Tuesday afternoon's 4-1 triumph over Stony Brook.
In 2011, the Wildcats ninth goal was scored in their ninth game.
"We worked on pushing ahead more on the attack in the pre-season and it's been rewarding to see the results of that early on," stated Villanova head coach Tom Carlin. "We have a lot of respect for Colgate, though, and we realize that every game is a new challenge - we must maintain the commitment to our plan that we have had in the first two games."
The Raiders defeated Binghamton 3-2 in their season opener and followed that with a 1-1 tie against No. 13/15 St. John's.< p> Last season, the two squads battled to a 1-1 tie. Villanova trailed until Soroka scored in the 87th minute.
