2018 Villanova Schedule
VILLANOVA, Pa.- A return to Talen Energy Stadium, a visit to Atlantic Coast Conference power Clemson along with a series of challenging home matches with BIG EAST stalwarts Creighton, Butler and St. John’s highlight the 2018 Villanova soccer regular season schedule, announced today.
“This is a schedule that will test us against some of the best teams in the country,” stated Villanova head coach Tom Carlin. “Each year, the Big East challenges the physical and mental tenacity of your program. Our tough preseason schedule will prepare us for league play. Our guys are eager to build upon this spring’s success as we look forward to the fall.”
The Wildcats will open the 2018 campaign at Delaware on Friday, Aug. 24 (7 p.m.). Last season Villanova defeated the Blue Hens 2-1 on Sept. 6 as part of a 7-11 campaign.
Villanova will kick off the home portion of its slate on Monday, Aug. 27 at the Higgins Soccer Complex as it hosts William & Mary (4 p.m.). Later that week it will be back at the Higgins Soccer Complex to host Loyola at 4 p.m. on Aug. 31.
The Wildcats will travel to meet NCAA Tournament participant Clemson, in South Carolina at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 3 (Labor Day). Then they return home to get set for another intersectional battle, this one to be staged at Talen Energy Stadium on Friday, Sept. 7, against Penn State at 8 p.m. This will be the Wildcats’ third all-time appearance at the home of the Philadelphia Union.
BIG EAST play kicks off on Sept. 15 with a match at Marquette. The Wildcats will host five conference games in 2018, including visits to campus by Creighton (Sept. 22); DePaul (Oct. 1); Butler (Oct. 20); St. John’s (Oct. 24); and Seton Hall (Nov. 1).
The tradition known as the Philly Soccer Six continues in 2018 as well. Villanova will host city rival La Salle on Sept. 19 and visit Temple on Sept. 26.
