June 9, 2014

VILLANOVA, Pa. - A strong lineup of BIG EAST and non-conference opponents highlights the 2014 regular season slate announced today by Villanova head coach Tom Carlin. The Wildcats, who finished 8-9-1 in 2013, return an outstanding nucleus of young players who improved steadily throughout 2013.

Five of the BIG EAST's 10 members earned a place in the NCAA College Cup in 2013 including Creighton, Georgetown, St. John's, Providence and BIG EAST Tournament champion Marquette. The Wildcats will meet all five of those squads in the new season.

Villanova also looks forward to playing on a new home pitch this fall with the installation of a field turf surface currently underway on West Campus.

"Our 2014 schedule is comprised of our usual top RPI Big East Conference games, as well as several tough regional non-conference opponents highlighted by our Philadelphia Soccer 6 rivals," stated Wildcats head coach Tom Carlin. "We are excited to start our new era of Villanova Soccer in 2014 at our new West Campus Soccer Complex."

The Wildcats open the 2014 regular season on Aug. 29 at Marist. The Wildcats will then hit the road twice more (at 2013 NCAA participant Drexel and Hartford) before hosting their first game on the new surface on Thursday, Sept. 11 at 4:00 p.m. when St. Peter's provides the opposition. Albany pays a visit to the `Cats home pitch on Sunday, Sept. 15 (1:00 p.m.) with Monmouth in town on Saturday, Sept. 21 (1:00 p.m.).

After a trip up the Northeast Extension on Sept. 23 to meet Lehigh, Villanova opens BIG EAST play when it hosts Creighton on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 1:00 p.m.

The month of October begins with a Philly Soccer Six match at home against La Salle on Wednesday, Oct. 2 (4:00 p.m.) and continues later that week with another BIG EAST home date, this one against DePaul on Sat, Oct. 5 (1:00 p.m.). The final non-conference game of the regular season takes place on Oct. 7 at Stony Brook followed by an Oct. 11 conference road encounter at Providence.

Villanova also hosts Seton Hall (Oct. 15) and Butler (Oct. 26) in key BIG EAST clashes in October.

The regular season winds down with a pair of contests in November. VU travels to Cincinnati to meet Xavier on Sat., Nov. 1 and then closes out the regular season campaign at home against Georgetown on Friday, Nov. 7 at 2:00 p.m.

The BIG EAST Tournament gets underway at campus sites the following week on Nov. 11.
