VILLANOVA, Pa . - Steve Sawyer has joined the Villanova men's soccer staff after two years as the assistant at Connecticut College, it was announced today.

"Steve is a great addition to our staff," stated head coach Tom Carlin. "He certainly brings a wealth of knowledge about the game as he learned from one of the best while playing under Head Coach Mike Noonan at Brown University. Steve's passion for the game and commitment to the coaching profession made him the perfect candidate."

At Conn, Sawyer helped head coach, Kenny Murphy, begin to rebuild the program. In his inaugural season, the Camels achieved their first winning record in twelve years and advanced to the conference playoffs for the first time. In addition to his position at Conn College, Sawyer also coached within the Southeast Soccer Club.

A 2009 graduate of Brown University, Sawyer was a two-year captain and four-year starter for the Bears. During his time at Brown, the team had an overall record of 46-19-7, won two Ivy League Championships, and reached the NCAA Tournament three times. He holds the program's record for career minutes played, having started 71 of 72 games.

Sawyer received numerous athletic accolades at Brown. In his senior year, the team honored him with The Class of 1937 Trophy, which is awarded to the player who contributes the most to the program. The award is the oldest the team presents to an honored player. Furthermore, Sawyer was recognized by the Brown athletic department as the recipient of the Dave Zucconi '55 Award. The award is presented annually to the male varsity athlete who most consistently displays the ideals of sportsmanship and fair play.

Sawyer currently holds his NSCAA Advanced National Diploma. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Brown in computer engineering.

Villanova began its spring season last week at Harrisburg and will be in action this Friday night at Lehigh at 7:30 p.m.
