2018 MLS Superdraft
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Christopher Bared, a Miami, Fla., native who was a four year starter as an outside back, was selected by Seattle Sounders FC n the third round of the 2018 Major League Soccer Superdraft on Sunday here.
"We're super excited for Chris," stated Villanova head coach Tom Carlin. "This is a great opportunity for him.
"Over his four years with us, Chris did a tremendous job. He was extremely coach-able and at every turn took the teaching our staff gave him and went to work. This is a credit to his approach, how he handled himself as a player and teammate, as well as his skill."
Bared appeared in 17 games for the Wildcats as a senior in 2017, starting 16 times. He contributed a goal and an assist from his outside back position.
As a junior he appeared in 13 games for a Wildcats side that made the school's first ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Earlier in his time at VU, he played with Panama's U17 team during the summer.
"I thought that experience just helped Chris' confidence," Carlin noted. "He performed well on a stage where there was a lot at stake. It gave him a little bit of presence to understand what it took to excel at that level."
Bared was the 68th overall selection by Seattle.
"This is a cool thing for our program and alumni too," added Carlin. "It's always great to see the school's name come across the screen on the day of the Superdraft."
