Boston College Nips Villanova 1-0
Villanova, PA.-- Trying to extend their Big East unbeaten streak to four games in the last home gameof the season, Villanova dropped a heartbreaker to Boston College 1-0 on Sunday, Oct. 26, in a game played at the Villanova Soccer Field.
With the loss Villanova's record drops to 6-6-4 overall and 4-3-3 in Big East Conference play.
In a rainy, sloppy day at the Villanova Soccer Field, Boston College got on the board first at the 27:21 mark of the first half, on an unassisted goal by Kevin Boyd.
The defenses battled it out the rest of the half with both teams combining for only four shots, and the game went to intermission with the Wildcats trailing 1-0.
Despite several scoring opportunities in the second half, Chris Hamblin continually stifled the Wildcat threats saving eight shots on the day to give the Eagles a 1-0 victory.
On defense for Villanova, seniors Paul Miraglia (Plymouth, MA/ Sacred Heart) and Kevin Mullin (Southhampton,PA/ LaSalle) were outstanding in defeat, allowing Boston College only six shots for the game.
In goal for the Wildcats, senior goalie Matthew Westfall saved five shots.
Villanova hits the road for a non-conference battle against Philadelphia Soccer 7 rival Pennsylvania on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 7 pm.
