Men's Soccer Falls To Notre Dame, 5-0

Villanova, Pa- On Wednesday, October 23, the Villanova University men's soccer team dropped a Big East battle to the University of Notre Dame by the score of 5-0. With the score, Villanova's record falls to 4-11-0 on the season and 2-6-0 in Big East play. Notre Dame now stands at 9-3-3 on the year with a 5-2-1 mark in the conference.
Notre Dame got on the board at the 22:20 mark in the first half when Chad Riley found the back of the net for the Irish. It was Riley's fourth goal on the season. Seven minutes later, Kevin Goldthwaite crossed a ball to Justin Detter, who beat a diving Sean Teesdale for Notre Dame's second tally of the afternoon. The goal was Detter's fifth on the season. Less than a minute later, Goldthwaite notched his second assist of the game when he connected with Erich Braun, who knocked the ball into the back of the net. The Irish's offensive attack continued when Devon Prescod took a pass from Riley and converted to give Notre Dame a 4-0 lead. The goal was Prescod's third of the season. With just eight minutes left to go in the half, Notre Dame added a goal when Justin Ratcliffe beat the 'Nova 'keeper, giving the Irish a 5-0 lead.
The Villanova defense would stiffen in the second half, holding Notre Dame to only four shots. Offensively, the 'Cats mustered scoring chances, but were stymied by the excellent defensive play of Irish 'keeper Greg Tait.
The goalkeeper tandem of Teesdale and Craig Bald combined to stop seven Notre Dame shots.
Villanova gets back into action on Saturday when they travel to Providence for a 1:00 showdown with the Friars.
