NEWTON, Mass. - The 24th-ranked Boston College men's soccer team defeated Villanova, 2-0, behind goals from senior captain Chris Cleary and sophomore Adam Pfeifer at the Newton Campus Soccer Field on Sunday. On the brisk and windy afternoon, the Eagles improved to 6-2-0 overall and 3-1-0 in BIG EAST games. Villanova fell to 2-7-0 overall and 1-5-0 in conference games.

Both Boston College and Villanova tried to create scoring chances in the first half, but neither team was successful in penetrating the goal box. Cleary's score - a diving header on a cross from sophomore Neil Krause - gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead in the 42nd minute. Kirt Dorsett also assisted on the play, sending Krause in down the wing.

The Eagles added the insurance goal in the 85th minute when Pfeifer took a quick pass at the top of the box from Krause and beat Villanova keeper Sean Teesdale to the far post. Freshmen Bill Arnault was also credited with an assist on the goal.

BC goalkeeper Danny Caruso made three saves for his third shutout of the season. Teesdale made one save in the loss.

Villanova returns to action on Saturday when they play Providence in a Big East showdown. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. at the Villanova Soccer Complex.
