Jamaica, N.Y. - The No. 2 ranked St. John's Red Storm scored five first half goals and cruised to a 5-0 win over the Villanova Wildcats (2-5-0 overall, 1-3-0 Big East) on Saturday night here.

St. John's broke into the scoring column at the 2:11 mark when Jeff Mateo scored his third goal of the season off a feed from Alberto Duenas. Then, just 39 seconds later, the Red Storm struck again. This time it was Angel Rodriguez whose shot beat Villanova goalkeeper Sean Teesdale (Blue Bell, Pa.) to make it a 2-0 advantage for the Red Storm.

St. John's pushed its lead out to three when Chris Bennice took a pass from Rodriguez and found the back of the net at the 22:21 mark. Mike Marcello scored an unassisted goal at 31:58 and that was followed at 34:23 by a goal from Christopher Winger on a penalty kick.

Guy Hertz made one save in posting the shutout for St. John's. Villanova was outshoot on the night 17-4.

The Wildcats resume action on Wednesday at noon when the Syracuse Orangemen come to the Villanova Soccer Complex for another Big East match.
