WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Georgetown Hoyas got an early goal and then held on over the course of a day often dominated by Villanova to post a 1-0 victory over the Wildcats in a BIG EAST match played here late this afternoon. The `Cats are now 4-3-1 overall, 1-2-0 in league play with a game Sunday evening at Seton Hall.

"We learned a valuable lesson today," stated Villanova head coach Tom Carlin. "You cannot have a slow start to a BIG EAST road game. Besides the first five to 10 minutes, we played very well and accomplished what we set out to do, that is expect to score. I give a lot of credit to Georgetown, especially their keeper (Matt Wilber), as they got an early goal and finished out with the home win."

The only score of the afternoon came at the 4:58 mark when Jose Colchao took a feed from Uche Onyeadner and put the ball into the net.

For much of the rest of the afternoon, however, it was Villanova pressing the play. The Wildcats outshot Georgetown 13-5 and forced Wilber to make seven saves on the day. Freshman Kyle Soroka had three of those shots while senior Mike Seamon added two others.

"Soroka, Seamon, Jordy Griffith and Sean Mergenthal did a great job for us today creating some of our best scoring chances," noted Carlin. "Our back line made one mistake early and it cost us."

Now the focus shifts to Sunday evening's match in South Orange, N.J., against the Pirates.

"We have to quickly rebound from this loss and get ready for Seton Hall," said Carlin. "No one feels sorry for us and we certainly do not feel sorry for ourselves. We just are eager tor another shot at a BIG EAST match."

Sunday's battle is under the lights at 7:00 p.m.
