VILLANOVA, Pa. - Penn State midfielder Derek Potteiger scored a pair of second half goals and assisted on another to lead the No. 8 ranked Nittany Lions to a 4-0 victory over the Villanova Wildcats in a contest played here on Sunday afternoon.

Penn State (4-0-0) jumped into the lead at the 8:29 mark of the first half. A corner kick feed from Potteiger was directed into the net by Brent Jacquette to give the Lions an early advantage.

Midway through the first half Villanova generated its best scoring effort of the afternoon. Senior defender Jim Curtin (Oreland, Pa.) fed classmate Brian Williams who broke in on Penn State goalkeeper Ryan Sickman alone. But Sickman stymied Williams, making the save and keeping the game at 1-0.

Jacquette netted the next Penn State goal at the 31:57 mark of the first half. Potteiger put the game out of reach with two second half goals, one on a feed from Matt Leahy and then second on a pass from Jacquette.

Sean Teesdale (Blue Bell, Pa.) and John Williams combined to make nine saves on the day for the Wildcats while Sickman was credited with six saves in posting the shutout.

Villanova (2-2-0) returns to action on Wednesday evening at Hofstra.
