The Syracuse Orangemen got one goal each in the first and second halves en route to a 2-0 victory over the Villanova Wildcats in a contest played Wednesday evening in upstate New York.

Although the Wildcats enjoyed a shots advantage in the first half (five to three), it was the Orange who notched a goal. Peter Lindahl sent a shot past Wildcat goalkeeper Sean Teesdale in the first half to put Syracuse into the lead.

Villanova generated some scoring chances early in the second half. However, they could not knot matters at one. Instead, the Orange moved up by a pair of goals when Guido Cristofori found the back of the net in the game's 83rd minute. Teesdale made nine saves in the Wildcats net.

The game marked the Big East Conference opener for both schools. Villanova falls to 2-1-0 on the campaign (0-1-0 Big East). Syracuse improved to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the Big East.

Next up for the Wildcats is a match with potent Big 10 rival Penn State. The Nittany Lions come to the Villanova Soccer Complex for a 2:00 p.m. meeting on Sunday, Sept. 10.
