Men's Soccer vs. Akron

Villanova took on Akron in the first round of the NCAA Championship on November 17, 2016.


Viewed as a perfect fit for the Wildcats by the coaching staff ... Offers extensive experience from his time with the Union MLS U18 Academy team ... Expected to be an immediate contributor in the attacking midfield.


Played an integral role for the Wildcats as they marched to their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance ... Tallied three goals and four assists for 10 points ... One of those goals was a penalty kick that was the only score in a 1-0 victory at Princeton ... Selected to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team ... Earned a place on the BIG EAST Honor Roll on Oct. 3 and was also named the Philly Soccer Six Offensive Player of the Week for his work at Princeton and in a 4-2 win over DePaul.


Made an instant impact on the Wildcats ... Named to the BIG EAST All-Freshman Team and the Philadelphia Soccer Six All-Rookie unit ... Injuries kept him out of the lineup for five of the Wildcats' final six games of the season ... He assisted on both Villanova goals in a 2-1 win over Delaware on Sept. 5 ... Scored his first collegiate goal on Oct. 10 in a 3-2 loss to DePaul in Chicago.


Parents are Karl Zandi and Mary Zandi ... Siblings include Addy (17) and Sydney (16) ... Zandi has been a starter for the Union MLS U18 Academy Team over the course of a stint that began in 2013 ... Has also been a part of the Union U17 MLS Generation Adidas Cup Team (2012) and U16 MLS Academy Team (2011-2012) ... Since 2010, he has also been a pool player for the U.S. Soccer National Training Center ... Selected Villanova for its combination of quality academics and a growing soccer program with a staff that was welcoming to him.
