Men's Soccer Week-In-Review
The Wildcats finished the week with an 0-1-1 record, after a narrow 2-1 loss to Temple on Tuesday, Sept. 2, and a 0-0 double overtime tie against LaSalle on Friday, Sept. 5. Villanova is now 0-2-1 on the year.
After going down 1-0 to the Temple Owls on Tuesday, senior James Corcoran scored the Wildcats' first goal of the season on an assist by sophomore Donavan Hornsby, to tie the game at one. Temple scored ten minutes into the second half to take the lead 2-1 and their defense held
Villanova scoreless for the victory. Senior Matthew Westfall was strong in goal for the Cats with six saves.
On Friday at LaSalle, the Wildcats and Explorers staged a defensive battle in a typical physical Philadelphia Soccer 7 game. After going scoreless in regulation, both team's defenses dominated once again in the two overtime periods, with the game ending in a scoreless tie. Westfall was spectacular in goal saving seven shots, as he recorded his first shutout of the season.
The Wildcats play at home on Wednesday, Sept. 10, against the St. Joseph's Hawks at 3:30 p.m.
