VILLANOVA, Pa. - After finishing what could be described as the best year in program history, the Villanova men's lacrosse team has their sights set on the 2011 season to begin their quest for conference and national dominance. An eight-game home slate highlights the Villanova schedule which includes six ranked opponents and four Top-15 teams in the lineup.
Villanova will open its regular season on Feb. 19th when Lehigh visits Villanova Stadium for a 1 p.m. matchup. The Wildcats will then hit the road for a three-game away stand against Bucknell on Feb. 26th, No. 13 Drexel on March 1st and conclude with Fairfield on March 5th.
The latter two games kick-off a busy March for Villanova as they then play host to in-state and city rivals Penn State and Penn. On Tuesday, March 15th the team travels to the Garden State to face the No. 6 Princeton Tigers in a mid-week matchup at the Class of 1952 Stadium. It will be the first time the Wildcats have played the Ivy League institution since 1989.
Manhattan closes out the bulk of Villanova's non-conference schedule on March 19th for a 1 p.m. contest before No. 2 Syracuse visits the Main Line for a 7 p.m. evening game on March 26th. It will be the first time the Orange has visited its conference foe since the 1991 season.
Villanova begins the month of April with a visit to South Bend, Ind. to face NCAA runners-up Notre Dame at the newly-built Arlotta Stadium, then returns home to host No. 12 Delaware and Rutgers on April 9th and 16th.
The Wildcats round out their BIG EAST schedule with a road game at St. John's on April 23rd and have a date with the Providence Friars in Villanova Stadium on April 30th.
The regular season final matchup will be a big one as Villanova travels to Multi-Sport Field to face No. 10 Georgetown on May 7th in Washington, D.C.
