Men's Lacrosse Announces Coaching Changes

July 1, 2010

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Villanova Head Coach Michael Corrado is pleased to announce a series of coaching changes in the men's lacrosse program, effective immediately.

Simon Connor has been promoted to Associate Head Coach after serving four years as an assistant under Corrado. Connor, a midfielder for the Wildcats from 2001-2002, joined the coaching staff in 2007 and has been heavily involved in all aspects of the program since his return to his alma mater. He will continue to create and develop the offense in addition to preparing scouting reports, designing game plans and assisting in player development.

Corrado states, "Simon has been a tireless worker and advocate for the team since coming back to Villanova in 2007. He's been intricately involved in all parts of the program, from watching game film, scouting opponents, serving as our recruiting coordinator and developing our offense from day one. His promotion is well-deserved and we're looking forward to him continuing to be a key component to our successes."

Joe Canuso moves into a volunteer assistant coaching position as he enters his fifth year with the team, where he will continue to work with the goalies and help with the development of the Wildcat defense. As the all-time leader in saves for Villanova, Canuso was honored this past year by the Colonial Athletic Association and named to the Silver Anniversary Team, honoring the best men's lacrosse players from the conference since its inception as a championship sport in 2002.

In a newly formed position, John Derham has been named the Director of Operations as he enters his tenth season with Villanova. In this new role, Derham will serve as a liaison to Villanova lacrosse alumni and perform outreach on behalf of the program.

"Joe and Woody (Derham) have been mainstays on the sideline and will continue to dedicate themselves to the development of Villanova lacrosse now and in the future. Both have a great knowledge and enthusiasm for the game that will only help us as we move forward," states Corrado.

The lacrosse staff will also welcome the new addition of 2008 Villanova graduate Andy German, who will join the program as an assistant coach after a after a two-year coaching stint at Susquehanna University. Under Corrado, German will serve as the recruiting coordinator in addition to assisting in practice and game preparation.

As a midfielder for the Wildcats in 2006 and 2007, German developed into a two-year starter and was voted team captain for his senior campaign. He collected 35 goals, 23 assists and captured 25 ground balls in his playing career and was selected to play in the prestigious USILA Division I-II North/South Senior All-Star game in `07.

Corrado states, "We're thrilled to have Andy come on as an assistant coach after his playing days at Villanova. He's done a great job during his time at Susquehanna and will help us in all aspects of the program as we continue to develop into one of the top lacrosse teams in the country."
