BOSTON, Mass. - Former Villanova men's lacrosse All-American and current Long Island Lizards standout Brian Karalunas has been named a Major League Lacrosse (MLL) All-Star. The 2012 MLL All-Star Game Presented by Moe's Southwest Grill will be held June 30 at FAU Stadium in Palm Beach County, Fla. The game will be televised live on ESPN2 HD at 7:30 p.m. (ET).

For the first time in league history, MLL allowed fans to vote for their favorite players, which counted for one third of the overall voting process. The game will feature a Young Guns vs. Old School format. Players who joined the league between 2001 and 2008 will compete for the Old School team while players who joined between 2009 and 2012 will compete for the Young Guns. Karalunas will play for the Young Guns squad.

Steve Duffy of the Boston Cannons will serve as the head coach of the Young Guns while Ted Garber, who was a coach in the MLL Summer Showcase during the league's inaugural year, will coach the Old School team.

Karalunas, a 2011 Villanova graduate, is in his second season with the Lizards. He has eight ground balls and one assist in five games this season as a close defenseman. Karalunas recorded 34 ground balls and during his rookie campaign.

Karalunas played in 63 contests with the Wildcats, totaling 213 ground balls and 153 caused turnovers - an NCAA record. He was a three-time All-America honoree, including a first-team selection during his senior season. Karalunas also was named the 2011 and 2012 BIG EAST Defenseman of the Year.
