PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Villanova sophomore LSM John LoCascio (Fairfield, N.J.) has been named to the Philadelphia Inquirer 2012 Academic All-Area Men's Lacrosse team, as announced Tuesday morning. LoCascio is one of 12 student-athletes chosen to the team as voted on by the sports information offices of the 28 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
LoCascio appeared in all 15 games in 2012, collecting 65 ground balls, 28 caused turnovers, one goal and one assist. The sophomore tied for second in the BIG EAST averaging 4.33 ground balls per game and ranks second all-time at Villanova averaging 1.10 caused turnovers per game. For his career, LoCascio has appeared in 31 contests while posting 79 ground balls and 34 caused turnovers. Addtionally, LoCascio has also been named a team captain for the 2012-2013 season.
Excelling both on and off the field, the rising junior posts a 3.816 cumulative GPA as a Business major in the Villanova School of Business.
LoCascio is joined on the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men's Lacrosse team by Brian Hill and Bobby Thorp of Cabrini, Aaron Benz of Eastern, Widener's Charlie Bytheway, Robert Church from Drexel, Dillon Hamill of Haverford, Swarthmore teammates Max Hubbard and Jonathan Molloy, Ryan McGee of Saint Joseph's and Gwynedd-Mercy's Zach Richter. John McSorley of Cabrini was named the Performer of the Year.
