LoCascio, Rice Named USILA All-American's Following Outstanding Seasons

BALTIMORE, Md. - Junior defenseman John LoCascio (Fairfield, N.J.) and senior attackman Jack Rice (Baltimore, Md.) and have been named 2013 USILA All-Americans, as announced by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association on Thursday morning. LoCascio was named to the Third Team while Rice earned Honorable Mention honors. Rice and LoCascio are the fifth and sixth players under Head Coach Mike Corrado's tenure to earn All-America status and it marks the fifth consecutive year Villanova has had at least one player named as a USILA All-American.
LoCascio's Third Team All-America laurels cap an outstanding junior season for the defenseman who collected 85 ground balls and caused 53 turnovers in 2013. LoCascio was named the 2013 BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year, was a unanimous selection to the All-BIG EAST First Team and also earned a spot on the 2013 BIG EAST Championship All-Tournament Team. The junior ranked first in the NCAA averaging 3.79 caused turnovers per game and also registered two goals and six assists for eight points as a dominate force in the Villanova backfield. Through his three seasons as a Wildcat, LoCascio has collected 164 ground balls and caused 87 career turnovers and currently ranks 2nd all-time at Villanova averaging 1.93 caused turnovers per game. Additionally, the defenseman ranked 3rd in the BIG EAST averaging 6.07 ground balls per game in 2013. LoCascio will return for his final season as a Wildcat for the 2013-14 academic year and will once again serve as a team captain for his senior campaign.
Rice finishes his career as one of the most decorated men's lacrosse student-athletes in program history after becoming Villanova's all-time leading goal scorer with 128 career goals. He was a three-time All-BIG EAST selection in 2011, 2012 and 2013 and was named to the Tewaaraton Trophy Watch List during the 2012 and 2013 seasons. As a four year starter on attack, Rice appeared in all 61 games of his career while making 59 starts and recorded 128 goals and four assists for 132 career points. Additionally, over the course of his career Rice notched seven game-winning goals and tallied 22 man-up scores. He ranks first all-time in numerous statistical categories including game-winning goals, man-up goals, games started, minutes played and career goals. For his senior season in 2013, Rice posted 37 goals, 19 ground balls and caused two turnovers and graduated from Villanova with a degree in Economics from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
Villanova finished the 2013 season with a 7-8 overall record, going 5-1 in the BIG EAST. The Wildcats earned the No. 1 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament and advanced to the championship contest before falling to Syracuse 13-9 which ended the Wildcats hopes for a post-season NCAA Tournament berth.
