BALTIMORE, Md. - Senior John LoCascio (Fairfield, N.J.) has been named a 2014 USILA Scholar All-American, as announced by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association on Tuesday afternoon.
In 1989 the USILA Scholar All-America Program was established to recognize student-athletes from USILA member institutions who have distinguished themselves academically, athletically and as citizens of their communities. The USILA Selection Committee selects an overall team representing Division I, II and III. The Scholar All-Americas are recognized at the annual Lacrosse All-America Banquet.
The 2013 and 2014 BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year, LoCascio earned his degree in Finance with a minor in Economics from the Villanova School of Business last weekend. In 2013-14, LoCascio was named a unanimous All-BIG EAST First Team selection for the second straight season and was also named to the BIG EAST Championship All-Tournament Team for a third consecutive year. He is also a current finalist for the Senior CLASS Award presented and was recently named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team.
On the field, the reigning two-time BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year finished his senior season with 77 ground balls and 36 caused turnovers and also added in five goals and 13 assists for 18 points. His career points total is good for third amongst active long-poles in the NCAA.
LoCascio's career numbers are even more impressive. He is second all-time at Villanova in caused turnovers (123) and ranks fifth all-time at VU with 241 ground balls. Over the course of his career, LoCascio has been named a Third Team USILA All-American while serving as a two-year captain of the men's lacrosse team. He continued his playing career with the Rochester Rattlers of Major League Lacrosse following the conclusion of the Villanova season and was named the MLL Rookie of the Week for the week of May 12th.
