Field Set for 2008 CAA Men's Lacrosse Championship
April 26, 2008
RICHMOND, Va. - The field is set for the 2008 CAA Men's Lacrosse Championships. A 10-7 win for Drexel over Villanova in Saturday's regular-season finale finalized the four-team pairings.
The tournament opens with a pair of semifinal contests Wednesday, April 30. Top-seeded Drexel (12-3, 5-1 in CAA) hosts No. 4 Villanova (5-9, 3-3 in CAA) at 7 p.m., while second-seeded Hofstra (8-5, 5-1 in CAA) entertains No. 3 Delaware (9-6, 3-3 in CAA) at 7 p.m. The winners will meet Saturday, May 3, at the site of the highest remaining seed. The CAA Men's Lacrosse Championship game will be televised live on CN8 as the opening faceoff is set for 5 p.m.
Drexel is the top seed for the first time in school history, and will be looking for its first-ever league championship. The Dragons earned the tie-breaker for the #1 seed over Hofstra after logging a 9-8 victory over the Pride March 29.
Hofstra is at home for a CAA semifinal game for the third time in six seasons after earning a 5-1 mark in league play. Delaware fell to Sacred Heart to close out the regular season, but Villanova's loss to Drexel helped the Blue Hens in a three-way tie for third place. Delaware won last season's championship as a No. 3 seed and later advanced to the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Final Four in Baltimore, Md. Villanova, which locked up a championships berth with a win over Towson last weekend, will face crosstown rival Drexel for the second time in five days Wednesday.
