PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The pairings for the 2012 Big East Men's Lacrosse Championship were announced by the conference on Sunday, April 22. Villanova (8-5, 4-1) enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed and will face Syracuse as the No. 3 seed (7-6, 3-2) in the semifinals of the inaugural championship, which takes place on May 3rd and 5th at Villanova Stadium.

The other semifinal match-up features No. 1 seed Notre Dame (5-0 Big East) against No. 4 seed St. John's (3-3 Big East). The Irish secured the tournament's top seed and a share of the Big East regular-season title by virtue of a 10-7 win against Villanova yesterday.

Syracuse, Notre Dame and Villanova each have one Big East game remaining. Syracuse plays Notre Dame and Villanova faces Providence. Both games are Saturday, April 28 and neither can impact tournament seeding. St. John's conference schedule is complete.

Georgetown and Rutgers also play a conference game on Friday, April 27; however, both schools have already been eliminated** from tournament contention.

General admission tickets for the BIG EAST Championship are $16 for adults and $8 for youths (12 and under). They include both semifinal games on Thursday, May 3 and the championship game on Saturday, May 5. Individual day tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youths (12 and under). Students from participating schools will be able to enter free of charge with a valid school ID.

2012 Big East Men's Lacrosse Championship

Thursday, May 3
No. 1 Notre Dame vs. No. 4 St. John's - TBA (ESPNU or ESPN3/ESPNU TD)
No. 2 Villanova vs. No. 3 Syracuse - TBA (ESPNU or ESPN3/ESPNU TD)

Saturday, May 5
Championship Game - 12 p.m. (ESPNU)

** If Syracuse loses to Notre Dame to fall to 3-3; St. John's is at 3-3; and, if Georgetown beats Rutgers to get to 3-3, all three teams will be in a "mini-conference" with 1-1 records against each other. The next tie breaker is goal differential in conference games (maximum of +/- 7).

In a scenario with Syracuse losing by 7 and Georgetown winning by 7, Syracuse would have the superior goal differential and would be removed from the min-conference.

Once the mini-conference is broken, St. John's and Georgetown revert back to head-to-head, and St. John's beat Georgetown, giving St. John's the tiebreaker. Syracuse would be the #3 seed, because Syracuse beat St. John's head-to-head.
