PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Villanova juniors Thomas Croonquist (North Caldwell, N.J.) and John LoCascio (Fairfield, N.J.) have been named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll for their performances against No. 4 Syracuse last Saturday, as announced by the conference office Monday morning. The duo helped the Wildcats upset the Orange 11-10 for their first BIG EAST win of the season and the second victory of the year for Villanova.
Croonquist set a school and career record on Saturday winning 22-of-24 faceoffs (.916) for the night against the Orange, including going 13-of-13 in the second half. His 11 ground balls were a career-high and he also provided the game-winning assist to help snap Syracuse's five-game win streak dating back to February 24th. For the season, Croonquist leads the team with 53 ground balls and posts a.601 win percentage in faceoffs this season. He currently ranks third all-time at Villanova with a career faceoff win percentage of .602.
LoCascio led the Villanova defensive effort with six ground balls and four caused turnovers in the upset. He aided a Villanova defense that held the 18th best scoring offense in the nation to just their second loss of the season. For the season, LoCascio leads the team with 25 caused turnovers and ranks second all-time at Villanova in the same category with 59.
Villanova will continue on with their schedule against teams ranked in the top-20 of the national polls when they host No. 16 Penn State on Saturday, March 30th. Game time is slated 7 p.m.
