VILLANOVA, Pa. - Villanova (2-5, 1-0) returns home to Villanova Stadium on Tuesday night when the Wildcats host the Georgetown Hoyas (3-5, 0-1) for their first home BIG EAST game of the season. Game time is slated for 7 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network. The contest marks the 20th meeting between the two schools with the all-time series favoring Villanova by a 12-7 margin.
Tuesday's contest is also STX Youth Lacrosse Night. All kids under the age of 12 attending the game with a lacrosse stick will receive free admission to the game.
Villanova This Season: The Wildcats enter Saturday's contest with a 2-5 record after defeating Marquette 10-8 on Saturday afternoon. Anchored by the three goals of sophomore Johnny Gallaway (Middletown, Md.) and a 6-4 lead heading into halftime, the Villanova Wildcats claimed the victory over the Golden Eagles in Milwaukee, Wis. It marked the first BIG EAST Conference games for both teams in 2014.
As of the latest USILA Coaches poll released on Monday, March 24th, Villanova has scheduled six ranked opponents on their calendar this season: No. 4 Maryland, No. 6 Denver, No. 9 Johns Hopkins, No. 15 Princeton, No. 17 Penn State and No. 18 Penn.
`Nova Offense: Senior Kevin O'Neil (Cockeysville, Md.) leads the team with 16 points via 12 goals and four assists while Johnny Gallaway (Middletown, Md.) follows closely behind with 12 points via 10 goals and two assists. 17 Wildcats have posted points through seven games this season. Senior face-off specialist Thomas Croonquist (North Caldwell, N.J.) has posted a .514 win percentage this season, taking 74-of-144 attempts.
'Nova Defense: Freshman goalkeeper Dan Willis (Moorestown, N.J.) has earned the starting role for Villanova and posts an 9.95 GAA while making 59 saves to start the season. His save percentage currently stands at .468. Junior Reed Carlson (Arnold, Md.) has also seen significant action in net and claims a 13.10 goals against average and a .500 save percentage. The starting trio at close defense, junior Christian Kolderup (Darien, Conn.) and seniors Chris Conroy (Chatham, N.J.) and Chris Piccirilli (Davidsonville, Md.) have combined for 39 ground balls and 26 caused turnovers while senior John LoCascio (Fairfield, N.J.) posts 38 ground balls and team-high 18 caused turnovers.
A Look at Georgetown: Georgetown claims a 3-5 overall record in 2014. They've posted wins over Mount St. Mary's (W, 10-4), Navy (W, 9-8 OT) and Furman (W, 16-9). Losses on the year have come via Towson (L, 8-7), Hofstra (L, 9-8 OT), Harvard (L, 15-7), St. John's (L, 15-7) and Loyola (L, 10-9).
Hoya Offense: Georgetown averages 9.12 goals per game on offense and surrenders 9.67 goals per game defensively. Peter Conley (16g, 10a) leads the team with 26 points this season while Bo Stafford (8g, 10a) follows behind with 18 points. 13 different players have posted points for the Hoyas this season.
Hoya Defense: Jake Haley has been the primary starter in net and has played over 480 minutes in goal while making 82 saves. His goals against average currently stands at 9.69 while his save percentage is .512.
The Last Meeting (5/2/13): Led by the five-goal performance of senior Jack Rice, Villanova defeated the Georgetown Hoyas 15-12 on Thursday evening in the BIG EAST Semifinals in front of a crowd of 2,517. The Wildcats will now advance to the championship game and face No. 2 seeded Syracuse on Saturday, May 4th at Noon.
