Men's Lacrosse Faces Delaware for Saturday Showdown

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Villanova (1-1) makes the short trek to Newark, Del. tomorrow to take on the Delaware Blue Hens (2-2) on Saturday, March 1st at Delaware Stadium. Game time is slated for 1 p.m.
Saturday marks the 15th meeting between the two schools with the all-time series favoring the Wildcats 8-5. Villanova claimed the most recent outing on March 2nd, 2013 in a 14-9 victory at Villanova Stadium. The Wildcats have won four out of the past five outings against the Blue Hens dating back to 2009.
Villanova This Season: The Wildcats enter Saturday's contest with a 1-1 record after defeating No. 15 Drexel 11-10 in overtime on Tuesday evening. The Wildcats have played two overtime contests to start the season; Villanova opened the 2014 year with a 7-6 triple-overtime defeat at Lehigh but rebounded nicely with a single-overtime win over Drexel at Villanova Stadium .
As of the latest USILA Coaches and Nike/Inside Lacrosse Media Polls released on Monday, February 24th, Villanova has scheduled seven ranked opponents on their calendar this season: No. 2 Maryland, No. 5 Denver, No. 9 Princeton, No. 10 Pen State, No. 14 Lehigh, No. 16 Drexel and No. 20 Penn.
`Nova Offense: Senior Kevin O'Neil (Cockeysville, Md.) and freshman Austin Frederick (Baltimore, Md.) lead the team with four points apiece off of four goals each while 12 Wildcats have posted points through two games this season. Senior face-off specialist Thomas Croonquist (North Caldwell, N.J.) has posted a .548 win percentage this season, taking 23-of-42 attempts.
'Nova Defense: Freshman goalkeeper Dan Willis (Moorestown, N.J.) earned the starting role for Villanova through two games and has posted a7.50 GAA while making 27 saves in his first career start. His save percentage currently stands at .614.
The starting trio at close defense, junior Christian Kolderup (Darien, Conn.) and seniors Chris Conroy (Chatham, N.J.) and Chris Piccirilli (Davidsonville, Md.) have combined for 15 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers while senior John LoCascio (Fairfield, N.J.) posts a team-high 15 ground balls and six caused turnovers.
A Look at Delaware: Delaware brings a 2-2 record into Saturday's showdown with the Wildcats. The Blue Hens are coming off a 15-5 victory over Mt. St. Mary's last weekend. They've posted wins over Mt. St. Mary's and High Point (10-3) while losses on the year have come via Bucknell (6-4) and Fairfield (18-8).
Blue Hen Offense: Delaware averages 9.25 goals per game on offense and surrenders 8.00 goals per game defensively. The Last Meeting (3/2/13): A 7-3 run in the second half made the difference as the Villanova Men's Lacrosse team posted their first win of the season over Delaware, 14-9, on Saturday evening in Villanova Stadium. In a contest that featured four tied scores, the Wildcats never allowed Delaware to take the lead as the Wildcats improved to 1-2 on the year.
