BALTIMORE, Md. - Senior LSM Brian Karalunas (Dewitt, N.Y./Jamesville Dewitt) has been selected as the 35th overall pick in the 2011 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft. Karalunas will report to the Long Island Lizards upon the conclusion of his senior season with Villanova.
Karalunas will join Notre Dame's Zach Brenneman and Sam Barnes, Hofstra's Jay Card, Virginia's Rhamel Bratton, Maryland's Ryan Young, Towson's Peter Mezzanotte and Delaware's Matt Stefurak for the 2011 MLL season, all of whom are current seniors with their respective universities.
One of the most successful franchises in Major League Lacrosse, the Lizards were runners-up for the 2010 championship after being defeated by the Chesapeake Bayhawks, 13-9, in the final match of the season.
Karalunas has enjoyed a successful playing career during his tenure with the Villanova Wildcats, serving as a two-time captain and twice being named a USILA Honorable Mention All-American. The epitome of a student-athlete, Karalunas was also named the 2010 BIG EAST Men's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year upon conclusion of the 2010 season.
Villanova will open their 2011 season on Feb. 19th versus Lehigh in Villanova Stadium. Game time is scheduled for Noon.

Major League Lacrosse's 2011 All Star Game will take place on July 9 at Harvard Stadium in Boston. The 2011 MLL Championship Weekend, presented by Warrior, is scheduled for August 27 & 28 at Navy-Marine Corps Stadium in Annapolis, MD.
