Villanova, Pa. - The 19th ranked Wildcats (9-4, 3-2 CAA) recorded their third conference win Saturday as they defeated Robert Morris (8-7, 1-4 CAA) 16-11. Senior Tim Langan (Madison, N.J.) led Villanova with three goals and an assist while senior goalkeeper Andrew DiLoreto (Wilton, Conn.) recorded the first goal of his career.
In their final home game, Villanova started out strong receiving goals from sophomore Mike Brennan (Manhasset, N.Y.), freshman C.J. Small (San Diego, Calif.) and Matthew Fritts (Dallas, Tex.) for a 3-2 lead to end the first quarter.
To being the second quarter, the Wildcats notched four straight goals including DiLoreto's cross field shot. Junior Mark Scioscia (East Hampton, N.Y.), freshman Kevin Cunningham (Garden City, N.J.) and Langan each scored in the streak to put Villanova up 7-2. Langan and freshman Matt Bell (Serverna Park, Md.) combined for three goals to put the game at 10-3 at half.
While allowing the Colonials to bring the score within five, Villanova held off Robert Morris by adding six more goals to make the final score 16-11.
DiLoreto, who leads the county in goals-against average, recorded 11 saves in the game while earning his ninth win of the year. DiLoreto now has 109 saves in the 2009 season.
Senior Chris MacDonald (Westfield, N.J.) notched two assists in the contest giving him 101 points in his career. MacDonald and Fritts have each tallied at least one point in each of the Wildcats 13 games this season.
Crobyn Tao-Brambleby led the Colonials with three goals and an assist in the game for four points on the day. Goalkeeper Sal Barcia notched 18 saves in the contest while allowing 16 goals.
Villanova returns to action Saturday April 25th for their final regular season game. They will travel to No. 5 Hofstra for a game set for 7 p.m.
