Men's Lacrosse Defeats Denver

DENVER - Senior Jeffrey Huber (Ellicott, Md./Loyola) tallied a school-record nine assists, leading Villanova (3-6) to a 19-11 victory over the University of Denver (3-4) on Thursday, April 9, at DU field. The win snapped a four-game Wildcat losing streak and broke the Pioneers' two-game win streak. The Wildcats got the offensive going 3:19 seconds into the game on a goal by freshman Andrew Bogle (Wilton, Conn../Wilton). Bogle tallied three goals on the afternoon. The offense continued to flow for the Wildcats, as they scored five more unanswered goals. The Pioneers did not get on the board until the 14:09 mark of the second quarter, when freshman Mike Law picked up a groundball and put it past Wildcat freshman goalie Mike Muellette (Montclair, N.J./Montclair). The Pioneers could not mount much of a comeback as the 'Cats increase their lead to 10-4 at the half. The 'Cats scored the first three goals of the second half, as sophomore Eric Dauer (Woodbrige,Va../Bishop O'Connell) scored his fifth goal of the season. The Pioneers tried to mount a comeback but the Wildcats were to much for Pioneers. Denver scored the last three goals of the third quarter and score three in the fourth.

The Wildcats had six different goal scorers on the afternoon and were led by Bogle and fellow freshman Jesse Ford (Wilton, Conn../Wilton) who scored four goals. Senior face-off specialist Brian Rhodes (Columbia, Md./Centennial) tallied his first career point as a Wildcats when he took a pass from Andy D'Amico (Harve De Grace, Md./Aberdeen) and put it past Pioneer goalie Brian Berger.

The Wildcats used two different goalies, Mullette played 40 minutes and gave up five goals and junior Brendan Keneally (Chester, N.J./Mt. Lake) played 20 minutes and gave up 6 goals. The Pioneers also used two different goalies, Peco Weily four saves and Berger 10 saves.

With the win the Wildcats improved to 3-6 on the season. Their next game will be at the Air Force Academy on Saturday, April 11 at 12:00 pm.
