Villanova, PA - On Saturday, March 24, the Villanova men's lacrosse team used a five-goal performance from junior Michael Holloway (Malvern, PA/Malvern Prep) to cruise to a convincing 10-5 win over the Ivy League's Dartmouth University. With the victory, Villanova now improves to 3-3 overall, while the loss drops Dartmouth to 2-3.
Dartmouth got the scoring started a little over two minutes into the first quarter when Schuyler Minert tallied unassisted. The next four goals would be Villanova's with Michael Holloway scoring three of them. Holloway netted two unassisted tallies and one assisted goal off of a Brian Marks (Glenmoore, PA/Downingtown) feed. Justin Marks (Glenmoore, PA/Downingtown) got the Wildcats fourth goal of the game after connecting on a pass from his brother Brian. Leading 4-1, Villanova allowed a late first quarter goal off the stick of Georges Dyer. Schuyler Minert assisted Dyer on the play.
In the second quarter the lone goal came from Holloway. The junior tallied a minute and three seconds into the quarter off another Brian Marks pass. Taking a 5-2 advantage into halftime, Villanova surged to start the second half, scoring the first two goals of the quarter. Scoring first for the Wildcats was freshman Richie Kratz (Succasunna, NJ/Delbarton). Kratz scored after cutting through the middle and receiving a pass from Brian Marks. The second goal came from Marks who netted the goal unassisted at the 10:46 mark.
Trailing 7-2 with over ten minutes gone in the third quarter Dartmouth put together a late run. Starting things off for the Big Green was Chris O'Hara. He was followed less than a minute later when Minert got his second goal of the game. The run would end up short lived though as the Big Green would get one more goal at the 1:04 mark of the third quarter and then it was all Villanova in the fourth quarter. Scoring the last goal for Dartmouth was Casey Burlage.
In the fourth, Villanova regained control and cruised to the 10-5 victory, tallying three unassisted goals. Matt Lucas (Fairfax Station, VA/Paul VI) netted the first of the three goals. He was followed by Brian Marks and Michael Holloway's fifth goal. For Holloway, his five goals were a career single game high.
