Easton, PA - On Wednesday, March 14, the Villanova men's lacrosse traveled to Lafayette College to tangle with the Leopards in an NCAA Division I showdown. Lafayette jumped in front early by scoring the game's opening five goals and never looked back, cruising to an 11-6 victory. With the loss, Villanova's record now stands at 1-3, while Lafayette improves to 2-0.

For Villanova, Brian Marks (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown) and Michael Holloway (Malvern, PA/Malvern Prep) stepped to the forefront, but their efforts were not good enough to beat the Leopards. Both players led Villanova with two points. Brian Marks tallied his two points on a goal and an assist, while Holloway got his on two assists.

Six different individuals scored Villanova's six goals. In addition to Brian Marks, the Wildcats received goals from senior captain Andrew Bogle (Wilton, CT/Wilton), juniors Carlton Holbig (Montville, NJ/Mountain Lakes) and Peter Franchetti (Gwynedd Valley, PA/Germantown Academy), and freshmen Richie Kratz (Succasunna, NJ/Delbarton) and Matt Lucas (Fairfax Station, VA/Paul VI). Each player ended the contest with one tally a piece.

For Lafayette, senior attackman Kevin Bromby was phenomenal. Bromby netted a career-high six goals as well as adding one assist. Pat Lennon and Morgan Battle joined him offensively. Lennon tallied four goals and Battle handed out two assists.

In goal for Villanova, senior captain Matt Wilk (Bound Brook, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) took the loss. Wilk made 18 saves and allowed 11 goals. For Lafayette, Duncan Woodard earned the win in between the pipes. He made 22 saves and allowed only six goals. The Wildcats outshot the Leopards 44 to 32, but lost the groundball battle 54 to 57.

 

 

Villanova will return to action on Saturday, March 18, at 1:00 p.m. when the tussle with Lehigh. For Villanova it will be only their second home game this season, since the 'Cats have been on the road for their last three contests.

Goals: Villanova 6 (Brian Marks 1, Peter Franchetti 1, Andrew Bogle 1, Carlton Holbig 1, Richie Kratz 1, Matt Lucas 1), Lafayette 11 (Kevin Bromby 6, Lennon 4, Mike Fiorillo 1).

Assists: Villanova 4 (Justin Marks 1, Brian Marks 1, Michael Holloway 2), Lafayette 5 (Kevin Bromby 1, Morgan Battle 2, Matt Prevost 1, Rim Derosier 1).

Saves: Villanova 18 (Matt Wilk 18, GA 11), Lafayette 22 (Duncan Woodard 22, GA 6)

Shots: Villanova 44, Lafayette 32.

Groundballs: Villanova 54, Lafayette 57.
