STATE COLLEGE, PA - On Saturday, March 3rd, the Villanova Wildcat men's lacrosse team traveled to Penn State to do battle with the #19 ranked Nittany Lions. Villanova was defeated by a score of 14-7.

The Wildcats had a slow start in the first quarter, which led to an early 2-0 Penn State lead. The Lions' senior, Randy Kleinman, netted both Penn State goals. Villanova answered with a goal by midfielder Michael Holloway (Malvern, PA/ Malvern Prep). Then Penn State responded with another goal before the end of the first quarter, making the score 3-1 going into the second quarter.

Unfortunately the Villanova Wildcats continued to have trouble getting the ball past Penn State goalkeeper Matt Vallone and the Nittany Lions pulled away with five unanswered goals. During the run, Penn State senior Eric Wood and junior Will Driscoll each netted two goals a piece. With two minutes left, Villanova's Matt Lucas (Fairfax Station, VA/ Paul VI) scored to break up the Lion's scoring streak. The score at halftime was 8-2.

In the third quarter, Wood and Driscoll continued their dominance each netting another goal. Villanova fought back with two goals of their own from David Cacciabeve (Boonton Township, NJ/ Delbarton) assisted by Brian Marks (Glenmoore, PA/ Downington), and Michael Holloway unassisted. In the fourth quarter the Wildcats put away three goals, but were unable to move within reach of the opposition as Penn State tallied four times as well. Scoring the last three goals for the 'Cats were Holloway, his third of the game, Justin Marks (Glenmoore, PA/ Downingtown), and Andrew Bogle (Wilton, CT/ Wilton). Holloway assisted on Bogle's goal and Brian Marks contributed his second assist feeding his brother Justin Marks' goal.

This loss brings Villanova's overall record to 1-1. The Wildcat's next match-up will be at Franklin Field against Drexel on March 9th.
