PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Junior Tim Langan (Madison, N.J.) scored two goals and classmate Andrew DiLoreto (Wilton, Conn.) tallied 13 saves but Villanova (1-2) fell behind early and could not come all the way back in a 7-6 loss to Penn (1-1) on Saturday afternoon at Franklin Field.

Senior Jay Foley (Montauk, N.Y.) added a goal and an assist in the game, during which the Wildcats struggled early and fell behind 4-1 early in the second quarter. Villanova got back into it quickly, however, as Foley and freshman Mike Brennan (Manhasset, N.Y.) scored 16 seconds apart to put the Wildcats within 4-3 at the 12:33 mark of the second quarter.

The Quakers scored three of the game's next four goals and despite scoring just once after halftime still led 7-4 late in the third quarter. Langan struck for his second goal of the day with 4:38 to play in the period and senior Matt Panneton (Niskayuna, N.Y.) scored late in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 7-6 with 1:50 to play. That was as close as Villanova could get however, as the team could not come up with a late equalizer.

Foley assisted on Panneton's late goal and juniors Ryan Lewis (Auburn, N.Y.) and Dan Liva (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) also added helpers.

Penn owned a 32-17 shot advantage for the game, including 12-3 in the first period when it outscored the Wildcats 3-1. The Quakers also controlled the face-off opportunities by winning 12-of-17 chances in the game.

Al Kohart had two early goals for the Quakers and finished with three total for the game. Alex Weber added two goals on back-to-back tallies in the second and third quarters that provided the decisive margin for Penn. In goal, Chris Casey had four saves.

Villanova returns home on Tuesday at 4 p.m. to take on Notre Dame.
