John "Woody" Derham is in his eighth season as an assistant coach at Villanova. He coordinates the team's faceoffs and assists in coaching the defense.
Derham has been instrumental in developing the Wildcats into one of the nation's best teams at the face-off position over teh past five years. Recent graduate Chris Colliniates ended his collegiate career with a .621 face-off win percentage. Colliniates ranked among the top five in the nation in winning percentage and also led the entire country in ground balls per game. Colliniates became the all-time leading face-off specialist in the program's history and was drafted by the New Jersey Pride in the June 2007 Major League Lacrosse Draft.
In 2003, Derham guided Matt Lucas to the second best faceoff percentage in the contry and helped him earn a spot on the world champion Philadelphia Barrage. Derham also manages substitution activities in the box as part of his in-game duties.
He graduated from Villanova's College of Commerce and Finance in 1988 and was a teammate of Head Coach Mike Corrado from 1985-87. He was honored as the team captain and recipient of the prestigious Jim Jones Award in 1988.
Derham currently works as a marketing executive in the financial services industry. He currently resides in both Doylestown, Pa., and New York City.
