VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova golf team takes to their final event of the fall season this Sunday and Monday for the Lehigh Invitational at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pa. The par-72, 7,091 yard course will consist of 18 holes on both Sunday and Monday where five individuals will compete and four scores will count in stroke play.
An individual and team championship will be awarded and the Wildcats are hoping to defend their team title when they took home just a year ago in 2012. Michael Kania and Steve Skurla led the `Cats with first and second place finishes, respectively, and concluded the event at -1 and even par for the two day invitational. The win marked the first of Kania's career and the first team victory for the Wildcats under head coach Jim Wilkes. Skurla also recorded the best finish of his four-year career at the competition.
Sunday will mark a 9:30am start time from hole #1 while Monday's round will begin with a shotgun start at the same time. Eight schools will compete including Bucknell, Colgate, Fordham, Lafayette, Rutgers, Siena, Villanova and the hosts, Lehigh. Frost delays are anticipated.
The Wildcats are looking to cap their fall season with a strong showing at the event which they've participated in the past two seasons. Villanova last played in the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate in Johnson City, Tenn. where they played alongside some of the best competition in the NCAA.
