VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova golf team makes the trek to Lorton, Va. for the Second Annual Patriot Intercollegiate hosted by George Mason University this Saturday, September 28th and Sunday, September 29th at Laurel Hills Golf Course. The par-71, 6,857 yard course will host 11 teams as the Wildcats ready for their third event of the fall season.
Participating in the event is George Mason, Christopher Newport, Columbia, Delaware, Hofstra, IUP, La Salle, Marshall, Penn, Wagner and Villanova. Play begins with a shotgun start at 8:30am and will conclude after 36 holes on Saturday while Sunday features an 8:15am start with tee times off of holes #1 and #10 for the final 18 holes of action.
At the 2012 Intercollegiate, Missouri claimed the overall team title with a combined total of 290-276-283; 849 and Mizzou's own Jace Long claimed the individual title finishing at 4-under par (73-69-67; 209). Villanova had a strong showing at the event with a third place team finish while Michael Kania claimed second place individual honors and finished at 2-under par for the event. Classmate Steve Skurla helped the Wildcats with a fifth place showing to place Villanova in the top-3.
Villanova has steadily improved with their young squad though the first two invitationals of the fall season with a 14th place finish at the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate and a 13th place finish at the Adams Cup on Sept. 16th and 17th.
