Kania Named Philadelphia Inquirer's Men's Golf Academic All-Area Performer of the Year

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Villanova's Michael Kania was voted as the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Golf Performer of the Year and is one of five student-athletes named to the Academic All-Area Golf Team voted by the sports information offices at the 28 institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area, an athlete must be in his second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better. Kania was named Villanova's Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year and averaged 71.2 strokes per round during his senior year. He won a pair of tournaments (Lehigh and Pinehurst Intercollegiate) and posted four top-five finishes. The two-time team captain had a career scoring average of 73.9.
Academically, Kania has compiled a 3.34 cumulative grade point average as a communications major.
The rest of the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Golf Team includes Robert Bass of Cabrini; P.J. Fielding of Penn; Quentin Griffith IV of Rutgers-Camden; and Mike Johnson of La Salle.
