VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova Wildcats prep for their final tune-up of the season before the BIG EAST Championships this weekend at the Rutherford Intercollegiate held in State College, Pa. and hosted by Penn State University.
The Wildcats will take on the Penn State Blue Course, a 7,202 yard par-71 course against a field of 14 that includes Penn State, Maryland, Bowling Green, Seton Hall, Youngstown State, Rutgers, Minnesota, Binghamton, Robert Morris, Ohio University, Xavier, Georgetown, Connecticut and Villanova.
The renovated Blue Course hosted its first major amateur event in 2009 - the Big Ten Men's Golf Championship. With the updates and improvements made in 2007, the Blue Course now sits as one of the top courses in the NCAA and has hosted numerous events by the USGA, FCWT, AJCA, IJGT and the PGA Junior Series.
Five players from each team will compete with the four lowest individual scores after each round counting towards the team total. Teams will be paired in groups of three and will be assigned tee times off 1 and 10. Both days will begin with tee times starting at 7:30 a.m., pending weather conditions.
In their last outing at the Yale Spring Invitational, Villanova brought home the team championship with seniors Michael Kania (Haverford, Pa.) and Steve Skurla (Wheaton, Ill.) leading the team both finishing tied for second place overall. The Rutherford will serve as the final invitational for the Wildcats before they head to the BIG EAST Championship in Orlando, Fla. on April 28th-30th.
