Villanova Golf Team Prepares For Spring Season
Jan. 16, 2002 VILLANOVA, PA. ----- The golf team begins their spring season on March 24-26 in the William and Mary Invitational, in Williamsburg, Virginia. The team used the fall season to showcase its many new members, as well as the growth, and maturity of its new leaders. The team first teed off in Annapolis, Maryland at the Naval Invitational on September 7. Freshman Jeff Parry (Columbia, Md.) lead the way for Villanova with a sixth place finish (143, +1). Parry went on to be the Wildcats top finisher three times in the fall. Also stepping up was freshman Ben Eisner (Nags Head, N.C.) shooting a (152, +10). He was the second Wildcat finisher behind Parry placing 59th overall at the Naval Invitational. Ending the season on a high note was walk-on John Keller (Bayside, N.Y.). Having struggled in the previous matches, Keller pulled it together for the last two competitions, earning two first place finishes. At the Georgetown Invitational he placed a team high, 21th place, having previously finished 26, also a team high, at the Stabler Invitational in Central Valley, Pa. Keller hopes to keep his level of play up in the quickly approaching new season. The squad's top overall finish took place at the McLaughlin Tournament in Farmingdale, N.Y. They placed 8th in the highly competitive field of 17 teams. Leading the way again, was newcomer Jeff Parry, who shot a 221, +11. Also stepping up was fellow walk-on John Ward (Milburn, N.J.) shooting 225, +15.
Much anticipation will follow this team into the spring season, having witnessed the growth in the fall season, the next few months will bring good things for this young team.
