Round 3 Results

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. - The Villanova golf team competed against Marquette on Saturday afternoon to conclude their stay at The Match Play at Pine Needles Golf Club. VU opened the tournament by falling to Georgetown, 4-3, in the opening round. After entering the consolation bracket, they were also defeated by Marquette in the third round by three points.

Villanova finished the team match play event, which featured a head-to-head team tournament formant, with an overall record of 0-2.

At the No. 1 position, junior Brendan Kelly was the only Wildcat to win all of his individual matching in two days of competition. He defeated Georgetown's Brian Dorfman (7 &6) and Marquette's Kelly Kretz 3 & 2. At the No. 2 position, sophomore Brian Colbert also had a successful tournament. Colbert defeated Brandon Ellis of Georgetown 4 & 2 and took half a match with Marquette's Ben Sieg on Saturday

In other matches of the day, Notre Dame defeated UConn by five points, Louisville defeated DePaul by three points, Cincinnati fell to Georgetown by five points, and USF won by a one point margin over Rutgers.

With the conclusion of The Match Play, Villanova concludes their fall tournament schedule for the 2009 season. They will be back in Spring of 2010 for BIG EAST competition.
