Mandich Paces Wildcats to Third Place Standing Midway Through Lehigh Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa.--Freshman Peter Mandich (Naperville, Ill.) carded a 75 and Villanova is in third place after the first round of the Lehigh Invitational at Saucon Valley CC. Mandich is tied for third place individually and his round helped the Wildcats post a team score of 317 on Sunday. The tournament concludes with the second round on Monday.
Mandich tied for the most pars in the field with 13 in the opening round at the 7,091-yard, par-72 course. He currently sits three strokes off the lead, as Jonathan Renza of Rutgers shot a 72 and was the only player to finish at even par for the day.
Junior Ted Brennan (Newtown Square, Pa.) is tied for 12th place after shooting an 80, while senior Robby Meador (Miami Lakes, Fla.) and freshman Lucas Trim (Tampa, Fla.) each finished with an 81 and are tied for 18th place. Sophomore Luke Waggoner (Crystal Lake, Ill.) rounded out the Villanova scores with an 82 and is tied for 26th place.
Seven teams and 44 individuals are competing in the Lehigh Invitational this week. Rutgers is in first place at the midpoint of the competition after recording a team score of 305 in the first round, while host Lehigh is in second place (313) ahead of the Wildcats.
Fordham is currently in fourth place (323), followed by Lafayette (327), Bucknell (328) and Siena (336). The second round begins with a shotgun start at 10:30 on Monday morning.
