HUNTINGDON VALLEY, Pa. - The Villanova Wildcats concluded the Big 5 Invitational with a 7th place team finish to wrap up the two day competition at Philmont Country Club in Philadelphia, Pa. Senior Derek Jones (Lower Burrell, Pa.) led the team tied for 12th in the individual standings, carding a 77 on Sunday to finish the weekend 75-77--152.
With strong winds in the area, the Wildcats seemed to struggle on the back nine for the par-70 course and finished with a team total of 617. Hartford took home the team title with a one-stroke victory over Sacred Heart, carding a 609 team total for the invitational. Binghamton, Yale, Princeton, Temple, Villanova, Connecticut, Fordham and Columbia rounded out the top 10.
In the individual standings, Temple's Brandon Matthews took home first place laurels after finishing the day one under par with a 69 (76-69--145; +5). Binghamton's Bryce Edmister and Princeton's Greg Jarmas tied for second place overall with a combined two round score of 146 (+6).
The Wildcats will conclude their fall season next weekend at the Lehigh Invitational on Saturday, October 20th and Sunday, October 21st in Saucon, Pa.
